Stay up to date on the Murfreesboro market
Murfreesboro, Tennessee is located in Rutherford County. Some sixty acres of land belonging to Captain William Lytle was selected in 1811 to be the new Rutherford county seat. The town was originally called Canonsburgh, but at the request of Lyte was changed to Murfreesboro as a memorial to a friend. It was named the capital of Tennessee in 1818 but lost that title to Nashville in 1826. The area was mainly an agricultural area until after World War II when it changed to an industry and manufacturing economy. The city currently has an approximate population of 131,50
There are many historic areas honoring the town’s past. The Stones River National Battlefield is the scene of a battle fought in 1862 during the Civil War. Some 81,000 soldiers fought at this location for the control of Tennessee. Another great historic area is the Cannonsburgh Village, representing rural life in Tennessee from the 1830s to the 1930s. Set on six acres, the village is open from May through the end of November and offers historic schoolhouse, gristmill, general store, museum and other historical buildings representations. The Oaklands Mansion is another great find for history lovers. A tour of the mansion, walking trails and wetlands can be found next to Oaklands Park. If you are ready for some outdoor activity, the Stones River Greenway is your opportunity to take in hikes, bike riding, and jogging along 12 miles beside Stones River, Lytel Creek, and Gateway Trails. The greenway connects neighborhoods, businesses, and historic sites while preserving natural resources. Those who appreciate art will enjoy the Center for the Arts, Inc., which provides many opportunities to both entertain and educate all ages on the different varieties of art.
The real estate in the thriving city of Murfreesboro is a variety of restored cottages and ranches as well as some traditional single-family homes. Set on beautiful lots, these homes can be found in brick or traditional wood siding. There are also newer sections with custom modern designs and contemporary condominiums. As this historic community continues to grow, you will notice the additional jobs and housing available. Even though Murfreesboro has a great historic selection, it also has the many amenities found in a city its size, as well as easy access to Nashville only 30 minutes away. Despite its size, residents say it maintains much of the small town feel full of friendly people. These combined make this a must-consider destination for homebuyers in the Nashville area.
