La Vergne, Tennessee is located in Rutherford County. The first settlement was called Buchanan Land and was a part of what was later known as Davidson and Rutherford counties. In its beginnings, it was a part of the Stones River and Hurricane Creek waterways but was called Buchanan Land after two brothers who settled there in the 1700s. A Buchanan descendant was the first postmaster at Buchananville in the early 1800s, but the name was changed to LaVergne in 1852. The city was incorporated in 1860 but that was rescinded and later incorporated again in 1972. In 1987, the name of the city was officially changed to La Vergne. The current estimated population is 35,100.
Outdoor activities are abundant in the vibrant city of La Vergne. With several parks available to the residents, there is always something to do. Veterans Memorial Park lies in the center of town on 55 acres. There are hiking trails for walkers, a basketball court, tennis court, soccer and football fields, playgrounds, an in-line hockey rink and eight baseball fields.
