Franklin, Tennessee is located in Williamson County, some 21 miles south of Nashville. The city was founded in 1799 and named after Benjamin Franklin. It has a lot of history, one being that the bloodiest battle of the Civil War took place there. Because of its history, and the many historic places still existing, it has become a popular tourist stop. In fact, in 2009, Franklin was given the title of Distinctive Destination by The National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2009. The current estimated population is 74,800 residents.

Nearby the McGavock Confederate Cemetery was established in 1866, holding the remains today of almost 1,500 southern soldiers.
